Visitor entry requirements for Canada vary and are dependent on who is entering. This page is for people entering Canada as a visitor and do not include the additional visa and permits required for temporary workers or students coming to study in Canada.
Visitors from Europe coming to Canada
Visitors who hold a European passport do not require a visa to visit Canada. The passport must be valid for the duration of the stay. Visitors must also have a return or onward travel ticket proving intention to leave Canada within 6 months of arrival. Visitors should also have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay in Canada.
Visitors to Canada who are US Residents
A passport is recommended for entry into Canada but it is not essential. An original Birth Certificate and at lest one photo ID card is accepted. Permanent residents of the USA must also bring their Green Card. Naturalized US citizens should carry their naturalization certificate.
Visitors to Canada who are from Other Countries
Visitors from some countries may require a visa to enter or pass through Canada.

Visitors bringing children to Canada
All children must have valid identification the same as for the adults as stated above in the relevant section. Travelling to Canada with children can be complicated if the visitor does not have legal custody. If this is the case the visitor must have a letter of permission from the children's parents.
Parents who are divorced and entering Canada with shared custody rights should carry the legal documents describing the custody status.
Children who are travelling alone must have a letter of permission from their parents or legal guardian.
People under the age of 18 are considered Children for the purposes of entry into Canada.
Reasons visitors to Canada are rejected
Canada Border Services Agency and Immigration Canada officials may prevent visitors from entering Canada for a variety of reasons. This is rare but reasons could include:
1) Visitor appears to pose a health risk
2) The visitor cannot support themselves or dependents in Canada
3) Visitors who are believed may stay beyond their permitted visitation period
4) People with a criminal record
Doctor's examination for visitors to Canada
If a visitor is coming to Canada for more than 6 months if the visitor has lived for more than 6 months in a designated country in the year preceding the date entering Canada.
